Associations between hip joint space width and osteoarthritis, a community based cohort study.

CONTEXT:  Real-world research published in Arthritis Care Res looked at 397 US osteoarthritis (OA) patients to look at joint space width (JSW) and its correlation with OA incidence.  The study concluded that JSW shows marked gender differences with significant loss over time in women.  Narrower baseline JSW in both men and women was associated with development of OA.
