Literature review demonstrates antifibrotic treatment reduces mortality and acute exacerbations in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patients.

CONTEXT:  A comprehensive literature review of antifibrotic treatment in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patients published in Chest.  26 studies were identified that included around 6,500 treated patients and a similar number of untreated patients.  The researchers found a clear link between antifibrotic treatment and a decreased risk for all-cause mortality and a reduced risk of acute exacerbations.
